Handcrafted Hardwood Gates FAQs

What material do you use?

We make our gates in one of these three options:

  1. Seasoned Oak Hardwood with a natural oiled finish to enhance the grain.

2. Western Red Cedar with a natural oiled finish to enhance the grain.

3. Accoya with a spray painted finish.

Our hardwood gates are beautifully handcrafted pieces of joinery craftsmanship, made in our Joinery Workshop in Folkestone, Kent. They are made using traditional joinery methods with mortice & tenon joints, meaning there are no ugly screws or bolts on your gates. The hinges are bespoke to each individual gate, made in Marine grade stainless steel to provide rust protection.

Our hardwood gates look beautiful on any property but particularly complement older buildings such as cottages, tudor style houses, farmhouses, listed buildings etc.

Our hardwood gates are built to stand the test of time, the life expectancy of a hardwood gate is 30+ years.

When it comes to oak and cedar, they are relatively low maintenance and will naturally silver off over time.

If you prefer to maintain a ‘new’ look for your gates, we recommend sanding down the gates and re-oiling them once a year in the Spring. This will preserve the reddish hues in the wood for a longer period of time.

When it comes to painted accoya gates, the paint will dull down slightly after a few years and would benefit from a fresh coat of paint, but this is purely an aesthetic choice.

Costs vary depending on the style of gate you choice. The bigger and more ornate the design, the more expensive your gates will be. The below prices can be used as a starting guide:

Manual hardwood gates start from £6,000 + vat

Automated hardwood gates start from £10,000 + vat
